Woodstock Downtown given top-notch honor Woodstock Downtown has been named as winner of the 2006 Atlanta Regional Commission’s 2006 Development of Excellence Award as the best overall project in metro Atlanta.
The Hedgewood Properties mixed-use development is one of five award winners scheduled to be honored during the regional planning agency’s State of the Region Breakfast on Nov. 17 at the Downtown Hyatt in Atlanta.
More than 15 developments were nominated for the awards, which demonstrate smart-growth principles, exemplify local government initiative that can be transferred to other communities and the ARC’s Regional Development Plan for the 10-county area, officials said. The ARC administers the award in partnership with the Livable Communities Coalition.
Friday Night Live debuts Friday in Woodstock
The Woodstock Downtown Development Authority, the Woodstock Area Convention and Visitors’ Bureau and the Woodstock Downtown Merchants’ Association present Friday Night Livebeginning Nov. 3. The first Friday of each month, downtown merchants will stay open late to encourage residents to enjoy Friday nights downtown. Most merchants will close at 10 p.m.,and the downtown restaurants will be open much later.
“The DDA encourages the general public to come downtown to get the weekend off on the right foot,” said Billy Peppers (Right), executive director of the DDA. “Downtown Woodstock offers excellent shopping, fine dining, superb drinks, live entertainment and exceptional artwork.”
