I have a bit of radiation protection training and would be very nervous about drinking water from such a test site without some extremely thorough testing and remediation. We certainly need more water reserves for an expanding population. Raising Lake Lanier levels seems the most practical idea. We already have infrastructure for piping water. A deeper lake will also be less prone to evaporation as mentioned earlier. I think people dismissing the potential impact of nuclear testing are being a bit cavalier.
