Property Rights Under Attack in Cherokee County

2007 will bring a new Chairman to the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners, Buzz Ahrens. The board is also in the process of appointing new members to Planning and Zoning Commission. It’s these appointments that most concern me and many long-time Cherokee County natives about the future fairness for property rights in Cherokee. Here is a copy of a letter from another concerned citizen of Cherokee County…

Dear Commissioners,

I wanted to write to you regarding information I have recently read in the Cherokee Gazette stating that Mary Catarineau-Ware will be appointed to the Cherokee County Planning and Zoning Commission. I am greatly concerned that Mrs. Ware’s presence on the Planning and Zoning Commission would only represent a fringe element in this County. Additionally, Mrs. Ware’s political beliefs and future ideas for growth in this County do not represent the best interests of my area of the County. While I understand you are not a post commissioner designated to represent my area; I would greatly appreciate it if you would take a long hard look at placing Mrs. Ware on the Planning and Zoning Commission. I know Mrs. Ware is a member of the CCRG, and is held out as their president, and I know many members of the County Commission have aligned themselves with this group; However, I caution you all with whom you decide to align yourself. Mrs. Ware does not have your constituents best interest at heart. First, Mrs. Ware’s husband is Tom Ware who is vice president for sales and marketing of McCarr Homes, a large development group with currently three quite dense developments being built out in Cherokee County . I am afraid that Mrs. Ware would give preferential treatment to developments associated with her husbands company, as CCRG has not fought against a McCarr Homes development to date. Also, I am afraid Mrs. Ware would use her position on the Planning and Zoning Commission to come out against other developments in this County simply to limit the competition for her husband’s development company. This is not the type of individual we need on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Additionally, I question Mrs. Ware’s judgment and true motives. I urge you to take a tour and review of her website www.mydiarywithgod.com

Please do not let such an extremist on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Furthermore, I also have received information that Debra Haynes will be appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Her affiliation with CCRG also causes me great concern for many of the same reasons as I have concerns for Mrs. Ware’s appointment. I also did not approve of her recent attacks against Rick Roberts. Mr. Roberts is a long standing member of this community and is well respected. It only shows her lack of understanding of the political climate of this County and her lack of appreciation for the families that founded this County when she unnecessarily attacked Mayor Roberts.

Again, please do not let such an extremist on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Thank You,

Nathaniel W. Cochran
(Nate)

I find it very interesting that Mary has changed her website to “Under Construction”. She must have been very scared of her own thoughts and writings. Those who seek public positions, should not hide who they truly are from the voters and general public to which they will serve.

I viewed her website-I can tell you that it being “Under Construction” is what we call damage control. As the word gets out about who she truly is and her motives, you will see some serious spinning.

    Knox,

    Thanks for the kind words.

Unfortunately, the BOC chose to post-pone the final process of approval until the January meeting with the newly elected Commissioner Ahrens. He has already stated his opposition to this project and I feel the vote will be negative and huge mistake to discourage this type of quality development for Cherokee County.

There is still a slim chance, but Commissioner Ahrens will have to change his mind.

    Brad,

You’ve done an exceptional job covering the BOC’s handling of the proposed Village In The Forest vote. I’ve enjoyed the coverage and especially your commentary.

I can’t express enough to your readers to go look at all your posts regarding this issue and especially your 3 reasons you think this new development is a good idea. I agree completely with you on this.
