The recent Board of Commissioners meeting for Cherokee County has created a lot of press and made a lot of people upset and others extremely happy. The buzz around the illegal immigrant issue and the Macauley "A Village in the Forest" project has lead to more comments and feedback for my blog than ever before. Even though I wish most of the comments had been made online via the "comments" feature on this blog, instead of through phone calls and direct emails, I am still overwhelmed at the response.
This response goes to prove that blogs are great for creating a local community to exchange thoughts and ideas on local topics.
Here are some highlights of the feedback I have received…
"We feel the development he is proposing is perfect for this property and this area. I have been relentlessly searching the internet for news articles, information and ammunition to help him in his battle and I came across your blog. Wow. If I was in the blogosphere, this would be exactly what I would have said in regards to your latest entry chronicling the BOC/Planning Commission meeting the other night. It is always nice to meet a "friend" that shares similar views and I enjoy your writing."
"…great blog you posted on W&S."
"Citizens in a commumity don’t have any trouble getting their minds around small projects with 4-20 homes. They can visualize it. Developers who want to "change the landscape" have problems because citizens can’t visualize what a 300 acre change would mean.
Not unusual. It took 45 years to get a much needed Intercounty Connector approved and funded in MD. "
"- this is a great post. Really shows homeowners in your farm areas that you care about them. "
Of course there were some negative comments sent my way, but most of the response has been in support of Smart Growth! I can’t complete this post without including this shameless plug… The Cherokee Gazette included my recent comments about the Macauley Project on their Opinion/Letters site: http://www.cherokeegazette.com
The response also led me to finding a Property Rights group for Cherokee County…
The Cherokee Citizens for Property Rights, LLC (Cherokee CPR) is a nonprofit organization comprised of citizens who desire to preserve property rights of land owners. For more information, go to their website at http://www.cherokeecpr.com
