Woodstock’s Magnolia Thomas Restaurant Returns in May & Other Good News for Woodstock

In February 2008, one of my favorite Woodstock restaurants was destroyed by fire.  And like the phoenix rises from the ashes, Magnolia Thomas returns in May.  Okay, maybe that was a bit dramatic – but I am fired up about the reopening!  Okay, maybe that was bit corny and I’ll stop there.

Magnolia Thomas restaraunt is a welcome return to my lunch and dinner circuit around Woodstock.  What’s even more exciting is that the City of Woodstock, current owner of the Magnolia Thomas house and the restaurant’s landlord, is considering donating the property to the Woodstock DDA.  According to the Cherkoee Ledger…

“DDA Director Billy Peppers said that his organization would use revenue from the rental property to help fund construction of a downtown parking deck and a pedestrian crosswalk over the railroad tracks adjacent to Main Street. Moon hopes that between the Magnolia Thomas rent and the revenue provided by a proposed hike in the city’s hotel/motel tax, the DDA will be able to fund the projects with little or no help from the city. Moon said that this would free Woodstock to use Tax Allocation District funds, which would have been used for the parking deck and crosswalk, to help fund the widening of Towne Lake Parkway and Arnold Mill Road.”

Exciting news all around… one of my favorite restaurants, a new revenue source for Woodstock DDA, a parking deck for Downtown Woodstock, and widening of Towne Lake Parkway and Arnold Mill Road.  Consider me stoked!  (I had to get one more in)

p.s.  It’s also cool that the Woodstock DDA created a Facebook Page.  I encourage everyone to become a “fan” and stay up to date or get involved in helping make Woodstock a better place to live,w ork and play!
